Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of joining another exciting event of the amazing K-Peritia network - this time at the University of Tirana where we discussed many important topics around cultural expertise, legalpluralism and decolonialism!
K-Peritia is an initiative funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), which is based at the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland and brings together scholars and practitioners who have an interest in overcoming barriers to inclusive justice. It highlights the essential role cultural experts can play in the courts to ensure a fairer process for marginalised communities.
In our event, Ersida Teliti and Fatima Mukaddam shared fascinating insights into how cultural expertise is relevant to Albanian law, and how cultural expertise can be used as a tool to dismantle colonial structures.
Huge thanks to Livia Holden and Dina Hadad for putting together such a great programme, and Ersida Teliti for hosting us in beautiful Tirana!
